Madison, Wisconsin capital building

Wisconsin Attorney General

Objective
I worked for two Attorney Generals while at the state of Wisconsin. This redesign was my second, and first where I had the freedom to take the design further. The new AG was looking to modernize the site and get rid of any unnecessary content. The old site wasn't responsive and looked dated compared to modern design.
My Role
When I was hired as the DOJ it was as a webmaster. I developed and transformed my role into a Visual and User Experience Designer, which really hadn't been seen at the state. I was able to showcase the UX process and lead the design of the project, while working with a PM and developer.
Outcome
With a good feedback loop and direction from leadership, we were able to build a website that had a simplified Information Architecture, modern and responsive design, that had a good base for accessibility and inclusion. Wisconsin Department of Justice.

Design

This project taught me a lot about flexibility in the design world. There was a vision from the AG's office that I was able to bring to life. Their guidance along with the research and understanding of the people using the website led to a more simplified Information Architecture, clean and modern UI, and a more personal feel to the site. This site was a success, marked by winning an award for Redesign of the Year for AG websites.

Final thoughts

This project was a great learning experience. Working more closely with stakeholders and developers allowed me to develop my communication and communication style. It also was an opportunity to show the importance of User Experience Design, and how it can be beneficial for future projects.
